Dazhbog is the great divinity of the light of day, and conqueror of the shadows. Dazhbog punished the wicked and rewarded the good. Mankind's destiny depended on him. Slavic mythology is still murky according to standard mythology books, but in general, the Slavic peoples believed life to have a certain all-pervading untity which also embraced all phenomena. This outlook is called animism. Specific animals worshipped by Slavs were not to be killed, nor their flesh consumed; and the "Tree of Life" was important in Slavic mythology. |
